I’m not a painter. I might be a painter. I am a painter.

Welcome to PV3 Gallery. If you know me, you may know me as a writer, or as a jewelry artist, and if you don’t know me, well that is what I was and still am, but now I am also a painter. It’s funny how life goes. I don’t need to tell anyone that, but regarding my own life - all this - this website, these paintings…It all began on a whim, a sudden almost manic urge to paint. My only prior experience was back in 2011, painting watercolor and gouache jewelry designs while studying at the GIA, and so this urge to paint with oils was very much a shot in the dark. My only explanation is that as a gemologist, I am in tune with color, and as a jewelry artist who sculpts his designs from wax, I can see what I want to exist and make it so. That’s really what makes anyone an Artist - having a vison and bringing it to fruition.

It’s now been 4 months since I began painting, and I love it. More than love, it is an obsession…and knowing how I obsess, I am excited to see what I’ll be producing a year from now. Sure, my jewelry designs have taken a back seat, and this is just one more thing to keep me from finishing that novel I’ve been working on, but like layers of paint built one on top of the other to bring a vison to life, that is how I see my present course. It will all make sense in the end.

I am now counting down the days till my first showing of paintings - “The Escape” Oil Landscapes by Paul Vermylen III begins March 25th, 2022, at 7pm and will be on display until April 7th at Industry - 344 New York Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743 - Hope to see you there!
